The childish tactic that occurred in downtown Boston was to tarnish a solid reputation, misinform hard working people and it frankly goes against the ideals of the American Dream.
Ask yourself: Is assassinating the character of a man a noble way towards achieving the American Dream? Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki defines character assassination as “a deliberate and continued process that aims to destroy the credibility and reputation of a person, institution, social group, or nation.” That’s certainly the attempt when a band of middle-aged men shuffled about for weeks in downtown Boston to gripe about something as it turns out they know little about. Instead it was it was a demonstration that methodically tried to intimidate and harm a good credible reputation.
Mr. Pogorelc provides employees good health benefits. What he doesn’t provide are benefits to workers that are directly hired, or directly managed, or directly paid by separate and discrete entities with no ties to Mr. Pogorelc other than a contractor-customer relationship.
It’s Mr. Pogorelc’s American right to hire organized labor or non for contractors — which may or may not provide health benefits — to perform tasks. These in turn help keep his own workers employed. It’s Mr. Pogorelc’s privilege to work hard, to choose the right people for the right job, and to pay them well.
Is not this what the American Dream is all about? Is it not based on a set of ideals in which the very fabric of freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success and to make decisions that allow you and your fellow man prosper? Is it not about the chance at an upward social mobility which most Americans would agree is achieved through hard work?
To be sure, the idea of the American Dream is rooted in the United States Declaration of Independence which proclaims that “all men are created equal” and that they are “endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights” including “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
